BEING IN TUNE WITH NATURE

BEING IN TUNE WITH NATURE

It is a real fact that nature plays an important role in human life. A thousand years ago, people learnt many things from nature. In ancient times, people depended on nature for their survival.

In ancient education system students learnt from nature which helped them to keep their minds alert and fresh. Modern education system is simply  trying to finish the prescribed curriculum for the academic year. Nowadays education is confined to the classrooms and students are not getting touch with the nature. Being in the nature will always reduce our stress. The benefits of learning with nature includes boosting motivation and concentration.

India has a rich tradition for education system During ancient times, India followed an education system called Gurukul system. Gurukul system offers students a natural environment for learning, a place where they learn values like brotherhood, discipline, humanity, love etc. as compared to classroom setting, learning in a natural setting promotes motivation, engagement and enjoyment for students because the ability of nature to heal is evident.

Nowadays the young generation is addicted to digital media and as a result, they lack the opportunity to enjoy the serenity and beauty of nature. Depression rates, lack of physical activity and social isolation are soaring high among youth and children as they spend a lot of time on social media and electronic gadgets for entertainment.

In nature-based environment, children can create their own identity as a powerful player in their own lives and the lives of others through developing deeper interests as they are exposed to real life situations with both adults and other children. When we offer children the opportunity to learn about whatever makes their minds tick in an outdoor environment that is naturally stimulating, suddenly they are motivated and become independent learners.

Increased focus, imagination and creativity, advanced problem-solving skills, physical activity, appreciation of nature and environmental sustainability are many of the benefits of nature education. So, Education today should  provide opportunities for students to experience and learn from nature as part of the curriculum. Because, nature is the first teacher and also an open text book to all. Students should be aware of this healing power of nature. It is therefore the responsibility of school authorities and teachers to create an environment where students can engage with nature. So, the teachers should do this for our budding generation today.
